Our story
From the Bayanihan Centre to today
The Bayanihan Centre was a long-held wish of the Filipino community in Singapore. With the support of the governments of the Philippines and Singapore, it was inaugurated in August 2001 on a site along Pasir Panjang Road provided by the Singapore government, with rooms for skills training and social gatherings for Filipino workers.
The Philippine Bayanihan Society (Singapore) was constituted in August 2001 to manage the operations, programmes and activities of the Centre. It is a registered society under the Societies Act. In December 2002 it gained full membership of the National Council of Social Service as a Volunteer Welfare Organisation, and in April 2004 it was registered as a charity under the Charities Act.
Over the years the Centre hosted courses in computing, caregiving, dressmaking, cooking and baking, cosmetology and more, together with community celebrations for Christmas, Workers’ Day and the Centre’s anniversary.
PBSS also supports charitable and humanitarian causes. In 2020 it donated a Yellow School Boat to the Yellow Boat Foundation for students in coastal Basilan, and 100 children’s masks to Mask Sewn with Love during COVID-19.
In July 2026 PBSS moved out of 43 Pasir Panjang Road. Its office is now at 400 Orchard Road, #05-08, Orchard Towers, and its programmes are held online and at partner venues.
